The atelier

Made by hand. Chosen by eye.

Where drawings become jewellery.

Slow, on purpose.

A ring can be cast, set by machine and polished in an afternoon. Ours are not. The Danelian atelier, and the specialist craftspeople who work alongside it, make jewellery the way it has always been made properly: by hand, under magnification, with time.

The house oversees every stage personally. Not because we do not trust the people we work with, but because the client trusts us, and we would rather see the work than hear about it.

  1. Drawing
    01

    Drawing

Every commission begins on paper. Proportion, profile and the way light will move through the stone are decided before any metal is touched.

  2. Goldsmithing
    02

    Goldsmithing

Shanks are forged, not cast where strength matters. Metal is alloyed for colour and hardness according to the piece.

  3. Stone setting
    03

    Stone setting

Prongs are cut and fitted to the girdle of each diamond individually. Pavé, as on this bangle, is set bead by bead under the microscope.

  4. Polishing
    04

    Polishing

Surfaces are brought to their final finish by hand: high polish, satin, or brushed, depending on the design.

  5. Inspection
    05

    Inspection

Before a piece leaves the house it is examined under the loupe: symmetry, security of every stone, finish of every surface.

Craftspeople

Skills that take decades.

A setter learns for years before being trusted with an important stone. We work with a small number of specialists whose work we have known for a long time, and whose names we are glad to share with clients who ask.
